Christina Here. I normally don’t write personal posts but this one deserves a little introduction. Last winter I decided to give up family & newborn photography, (exceptions for the families that already had booked with me!). All our family sessions from there on out were handled by Brian & I sold all of my newborn “props” and closed that chapter of my photography business. I thought, maybe when I have kids, I’ll get back into it. When Gabe approached me about doing her newborn portraits my initial reaction was to send her somewhere else, after all, I didn’t photograph newborns anymore…. However, Gabe has taken care of me for the last few wedding seasons, making me feel beautiful & relaxed at times when I didn’t think I had time to feel beautiful or relaxed. And for that, I considered the newborn session. There were a few conditions; I had sold all of my props, so it was going to be natural and anything in the photos was going to be owned by them. I wasn’t really into the posing thing, so they had to be okay with lifestyle-like portraits doing things that parents naturally do…you know, holding & loving their new baby. Oh, and if they wanted a swaddle photo, they might have to do it themselves, because I wasn’t the best swaddler. They accepted. After the session, I left feeling a huge sense of wanting to reintroduce newborn sessions in my life- in just this way. natural, in your home, with your blankets and with your love. I got home from the session, loaded the cards & the first e-mail in my inbox was awaiting me… It was a newborn inquiry. I love the way this world works.
