Family Photos at Your Naples Resort | An Easy Maternity Session
Naples and Marco Island are home to a number of luxury beachfront resorts that are ideal for family photos. Whether you’re staying at the JW Marriott Marco Island, Four Seasons Naples Beach Club, The Ritz-Carlton Naples, or The Old Naples Hotel, which recently opened on Third Street South, having family photos taken while you’re here doesn’t have to be complicated.
I love making the booking and photography experience as easy as possible for my clients. And what is easier than walking out of your hotel room, meeting me in the lobby, and exploring the beautiful grounds of the resort where you’re already staying?
The grounds at these properties are designed to be beautiful, which means there are usually plenty of places to photograph without having to travel somewhere else. Many are also directly on the beach, so we can make our way from the resort grounds to the water and create a gallery with plenty of variety.
And once the session is over, you’re done. You can head right back to your room, change, grab a drink, or enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants on property. No loading everyone back into the car, no traffic, and no long ride home with sandy or wet kids.

A Real Maternity Family Session at the JW Marriott Marco Island
This family was visiting from Texas and wanted to document this particular moment in their lives. They were expecting their second child and wanted to remember their trip to the JW Marriot Marco Island Resort with photographs of the three of them together before their family grew.
Staying on property was especially ideal for this session because, as many parents know, being pregnant and trying to photograph a toddler can already come with enough moving parts.
There was no need to pack everyone into a car, drive somewhere unfamiliar, find parking, unload a toddler, and then try to get everyone settled. Instead, they simply came down from their room and met me at the resort.
That small difference can make a surprisingly big impact on how a session feels.
Why Staying on Property Makes Family Photos Easier
One of the biggest advantages of an on-property session is simply that there are fewer moving parts.
When we photograph somewhere else, you have to plan around getting everyone dressed, getting the kids into the car, driving to the location, finding parking, walking to the beach, and arriving at a very specific time.
That becomes even more important when we’re working around the best light.
For a sunset session, I don’t want a family arriving at the beach an hour before sunset just because we need to account for parking and walking from the car. I want to be able to use that time intentionally.
When you’re staying at the resort, we have much more flexibility.
If your toddler takes a little longer to nap, you need a few extra minutes to get ready, or someone suddenly needs something from the room, you’re not trying to recover from a missed schedule while sitting in traffic. Your room is right there.
We can meet in the lobby, begin photographing around the property, and then make our way toward the beach as the light becomes ideal.
And when the session is over, you’re back in your room within minutes.
For families with young children, pregnant moms, or anyone who simply doesn’t want to add another complicated outing to their vacation, that can make a huge difference.

Especially When You Have a Toddler
Toddlers can take a little time to warm up to a new environment, a new person, or the idea of having their photograph taken.
Sometimes they jump right in. Other times, they need a little time to observe what’s happening before they want to participate.
Staying at your resort can help with that.
If you’ve already spent a few days at the property, the grounds are familiar. Your child knows where they are, they’ve already seen the lobby, walked around the property, and spent time in the room. We’re not asking them to get into a car and go somewhere completely unfamiliar right before their photos.
You also have everything you need nearby.
Need a snack? It’s in the room.
Need to change a diaper? You’re minutes away.
Need to grab another outfit, a pacifier, or something you forgot? No problem.
That flexibility can be especially valuable when you’re photographing a young family.
And if your child needs a minute, we have the space to let them take it. I would much rather allow a toddler some time to explore and warm up than try to force them into a photograph before they’re ready.
You Don’t Need to Leave the Resort for Beautiful Photos
Another reason I love photographing families at luxury resorts is that the properties themselves are beautiful.
These hotels are designed with aesthetics in mind. The landscaping, architecture, gardens, pools, walkways, and gathering spaces are all intentionally created to feel special.
That makes finding beautiful backdrops much easier.
Instead of spending the entire session searching for one perfect location, we can move through the property and find little pockets of beautiful light and interesting backgrounds as we go.
And if you’re staying at a beachfront resort, there’s another obvious backdrop waiting for us at the end of the session.
The Gulf.
I don’t see much reason to make a family leave a beautiful beachfront resort, get into a car, and drive somewhere else simply to find another beach. You already picked your hotel because of the destination, so why not make the most of it? These hotels are designed with aesthetics in mind. The landscaping, architecture, gardens, pools, walkways, and gathering spaces are all intentionally created to feel special.
The resort itself can provide so many beautiful backdrops that you don’t necessarily need to leave the property to get a variety of photographs. I recently photographed a family at Four Seasons Naples Beach Club, and you can see that full family session HERE.
This is one of the reasons I love photographing at luxury properties like Four Seasons Naples Beach Club. If you’re staying at the Four Seasons and considering family, maternity, engagement, or extended family photos during your visit, I’ve put together more information about photographing at the resort here.

Making Use of the Resort and the Beach
For this particular family, we really focused on the beach, as that was what they envisioned for their session.
But, whatever your vision might be, resort provides structure and variety. We can use the landscaping, architecture, shaded areas, and pathways for portraits and family interactions.
Then we can transition toward the beach as the sun gets lower.
The beach photographs have a completely different feeling. There’s more space, more movement, and that unmistakable Southwest Florida backdrop of sand, Gulf water, and evening light.
I especially like saving the beach for later in the session because the light is so much more flattering once the sun gets low.

Why I Photograph These Sessions on Film
This entire session was photographed on film.
I love the way film works with the natural environments at these resorts. The soft greens of the landscaping, the neutral tones of the architecture, and the warm evening light all photograph beautifully on film.
But the bigger reason I choose film is because of how I want family photographs to feel.
I don’t want your images to feel overly processed or tied to whatever photography trend happens to be popular right now. I want them to feel soft, natural, and timeless.
That feels particularly fitting for a maternity session like this one.
They’re not just documenting a vacation. They’re documenting the last days of being a family of three before welcoming another child.
Those are the kinds of photographs I want you to still love looking at years from now.

When Does an On-Property Session Make the Most Sense?
I think resort sessions make sense for almost any family staying at a beautiful beachfront property, but there are a few situations where I especially recommend them.
If you have young children, staying on property can make the entire experience easier.
If you’re pregnant, minimizing unnecessary travel and extra transitions can make the evening much more comfortable.
If you’re traveling with grandparents or an extended family, having everyone already together at the same resort eliminates another major logistical hurdle.
And if the thought of coordinating everyone into cars, finding parking, and arriving somewhere at a very specific time already feels stressful, staying on property may be the best option of all.
The best thing I want for my clients is for them to feel relaxed before, during, and after their photographs.
I think that really shows in the images.
Your Vacation Doesn’t Need Another Complicated Schedule
One of my favorite things about vacation photography is that it doesn’t need to feel like another item on your vacation itinerary.
You don’t have to spend an entire afternoon preparing, pack everyone into the car, and give up hours of your vacation just to have family photos taken.
If you’re staying somewhere beautiful, we can use what is already around you.
Meet me in the lobby. Walk the grounds. Let the kids explore. Take a few minutes to settle in. Then, as the light gets better, we’ll make our way toward the beach.
And when we’re finished, you’re home.
For this family, that meant documenting an important moment before their second child arrived without making the experience feel overwhelming.
That’s exactly how I want family photography to feel.
Simple, relaxed, and like a natural part of your time in Southwest Florida.
Final Thoughts
If you’re staying at a luxury resort in Naples or Marco Island, you already have a beautiful setting right outside your door.
Whether you’re traveling with a toddler, expecting a new baby, bringing grandparents along, or simply want to document your family vacation without adding another complicated outing to the schedule, an on-property session can be one of the easiest ways to make it happen.
For me, the goal isn’t just to create beautiful photographs. It’s to make the experience of taking them feel just as enjoyable.
You should be able to finish your session, walk back to your room, and get on with your vacation.
And years from now, you’ll have the photographs to remind you of exactly where your family was in that moment.
